January Birthdays

January is a very busy birthday month in our family. Alyssa, Enid, Mom and Dad, and my mother-in-law all have January birthdays. We bought Alyssa a plane ticket to fly home for her birthday. Mom and Dad picked her up at the airport on their way north. We all met up at Noah's final home basketball game in Arlington. Noah's team is two games away from an undefeated season. They beat Lake Stevens last night by nearly 30 points. Noah hit a buzzer beating shot from half court to end the first half. I think it's the first 3-pointer he's made all season. Usually he's down low battling with the big boys. Too bad I wasn't filming at that point in the game.

He had a chance to make a half-court shot during halftime of the last varsity game for $100 bucks and missed it. And then he made this one when no money was on the line.

We picked up birthday cupcakes at the new cupcake store in Stanwood and are anxious to try them tomorrow on Alyssa's real birthday. We have red velvet, lemon angelfood cake, chocolate with peanut butter mousse, chocolate angelfood, dark chocolate, and chocolate with raspberry filling. We are off to Claimjumpers for dinner soon. Alyssa is anxious to try their huge chocolate layer cake for dessert. We had to take a 4:00 PM reservation so we'll be eating with all the old people who go out to dinner early. But it was a choice between 4 and 8 and no one wants to eat that late. By eating early Alyssa will have more time to shop at Alderwood Mall and spend her birthday money.

Resting is Hard

Having a week off from work to recuperate after a minor surgical procedure is proving difficult. I am bored. Once the pain was gone and I wasn't taking narcotic pain killers I expected my energy level to come back immediately. Wrong! If I try to do too much I end up feeling like my legs are rubber bands. I went to Noah's game last night thinking that sitting and watching basketball wouldn't wear me out but it did. I think I am just a bad patient. There's only so much reading to do and so much TV to watch. Although I have become quite a fan of the Travel Channel, "Bizarre Foods", "No Reservations", and "Man vs. Food" are my favorites. My other problem is that as soon as I lie down to take a nap the phone rings. Yesterday it was my doctor's nurse calling to check on me. I guess I'll just have to turn the phone off.
